Before you get in touch
How long does each portrait take?
Each guest takes a seat for a quick photo, and we turn it into an original drawing during the event. Finished portraits are printed and displayed for guests to collect on their way out, and nothing is emailed afterwards. Allow roughly ten guests an hour per artist when you are planning the evening.
Do guests pay for their portrait?
Never. You book the package and every portrait in it is included. No guest is ever asked for money, and there is no tip jar on the table.
Is this a caricature?
No. Caricature exaggerates. This is a flattering hand-drawn portrait of someone as they actually look on the night, which is why people keep them.
What do the prints look like?
Small, in instant format, printed beside the table. They are dye-sublimation prints, which means they are smudge-proof and water-resistant the moment they come out, and sealed to last without any drying or handling instructions.
What areas do you cover?
Washington DC, Baltimore, and the wider Maryland and Northern Virginia region. Travel within 35 miles of Columbia, Maryland is included in every package. Beyond that, we drive up to about four hours and fly in for destination weddings across the US. See the Travel prices above.
Do you travel for destination weddings?
Yes, across the US and abroad. Destination weddings are booked on The Signature or The Heirloom. Within about four hours' drive of Columbia, Maryland, travel is $0.75 a mile, round trip, plus lodging at cost if the drive home after the event runs over two hours. Anywhere we fly to in the US, including Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Hawaii and Alaska, the destination fee is $1,500, which covers our travel time. Flights, checked bags for the equipment, lodging and ground transport are billed separately, at cost, and you see the full figure before you book. Weddings outside the US are quoted. Prices are in US dollars, and cards issued outside the US carry a 5% processing fee, or you can pay by bank transfer at no extra charge.
What happens if guests are still waiting when time is up?
We will tell you as the end of the booked time approaches rather than stopping without warning. Any guests still waiting can be photographed for reference and their portraits finished in the studio, then sent on within two weeks. Nothing is charged without your say-so.
How far in advance should we book?
Peak season runs May through October and those dates go first. A signed agreement and a deposit hold your date. Dates are not held on a verbal.
What do you need from the venue?
A table, two chairs, and access to a power outlet. We bring everything else, set the table ourselves and clear it at the end.
